Seeking Makerspace Coordinator

The MACC Makerspace Lab is hiring a coordinator for the new shared space!

Qualifications:

Must have ability to manage a budget, problem solve, multi-task, meet deadlines, and work with all types of people. Additional skills needed include knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, time management, organization, and strong written language skills. Interest in and ability to learn about technical equipment is also highly desirable. A B.S. in Business Administration or equivalent experience in business management is desired.

Description:

A Makerspace is a place where people get together to make things using equipment that is specialized and often expensive. At 5,000 square feet, MACC’s Makerspace (MACCLab) will house a variety of equipment including electronics, laser engravers, wood and metal shops with CNC machines, vinyl cutters, frame shop, embroidery machine, sewing machines, long-arm quilting machine, 3D printer, and computers for design. MACCLab will be open to the public through memberships to encourage small-scale production by area entrepreneurs.

This position will manage MACCLab and will require strong office management and technical writing skills including creating effective schedules and developing operations manuals. The successful candidate will feel comfortable recruiting and working with a diverse group of technicians, makers, equipment vendors, and volunteers.

In addition to office management skills, the Lab Coordinator must have strong interpersonal skills including both written and verbal communication, the ability to work well with people with diverse backgrounds and abilities, and the ability to work well independently.

This is a salaried, exempt position and is covered by the Public School Retirement System of Missouri (PSRS).

The Lab Coordinator shall have the following duties and responsibilities:

  1. Maintain a creative and safe work environment for MACCLab;
  2. Monitor students, faculty, and external users of MACCLab;
  3. Supervise student workers, MACCLab members, and volunteers and provide them with technical assistance when possible;
  4. Provide training and assistance to students, faculty, and MACCLab members in the safe use and handling of equipment and materials;
  5. Prepare MACCLab procedures manuals, membership guidelines/handbooks, and coordinate/assist in preparation and updating of equipment operations manuals;
  6. Oversee, track, and arrange for maintenance of equipment;
  7. Estimate, track, and order the type and quantity of supplies and materials needed and used for program activities in labs and in MACCLab;
  8. Manage memberships including scheduling and tracking MACCLab classes and attendees;
  9. Process and record membership payments and purchases of supplies;
  10. Manage MACCLab budget;
  11. Recruit, hire, and train student workers, maker teachers, and volunteers;
  12. Order, set up, and manage purchase and sale of supplies for MACCLab users;
  13. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment in all labs;
  14. Maintain computerized inventory of supplies and materials; maintain adequate stock levels;
  15. Schedule and assist in running MACCLab Advisory Committee;
  16. Work with MACC Director of Marketing to plan for promotion of MACCLab;
  17. Perform other duties as assigned/requested by the Mechatronics Coordinator, Dean of Workforce Development and Technical Education, Director of Career and Technical Education, or person designated by the President.

The coordinator shall be appointed by the Board of Trustees upon the recommendation of the President.  The salary and term of employment shall be determined by the Board of Trustees upon the recommendation of the President.  This position reports to the Dean of Workforce Development and Technical Education or as designated by the President.
